I started back to school this week. This hopefully will be my last semester as a college student as I finish my BA in Fine Art. I get nervous before any new adventure and so decided to do a little henna on myself to take my mind off of the upcoming classes. I started doing henna last year at the urging of my friend, Kristine. She had been working with it for a few years and had loved the designing, the actual applying and the fact that it was not permanent and could be done again at any time. Once I started trying it out, I found the whole process to be very relaxing. Just going with the flow of the lines and swirls, letting the patterns build on each other.
Henna paste takes about an hour to dry and so by applying it to my hand, I also forced myself to sit still and just enjoy the time. It is best if the paste stays on the skin for at least a few hours.
The stain of this batch of henna was not as dark as I would have liked, but I was happy with the fact that I had something creative to take with me to school, a visual reminder to just breathe and enjoy the moment…even if that moment was conjugating Spanish verbs!!
Do you have a visual cue that you use to remind yourself to slow down and enjoy the moment?
