Back in the day, I owned a lot of rubber stamps. A. LOT. I loved them so much, I stamped and embossed all of my wedding invitations and reply cards. Sadly, I gave them all away and now that I’ve found myself needing some stamps for my art journal planner, I have none! So, a new obsession hobby was born…
I recently treated myself to the class Doodle and Carve by two of the Documented Life ladies. It was a great introduction to stamp carving and I recommend you start there! Since I also treated myself to the Speedball carving tool
(with a coupon, of course!), I had to be super cheap about my carving material. Enter the dollar store…
I found a few different sizes and shapes of erasers at the dollar store. Since they were so inexpensive, I wasn’t worried about ruining one or two while I was learning to carve my shapes. I sketched out some ideas first just to get an idea of the right size and then sketched right onto the erasers.
The Speedball tool has multiple tips that are stored in the handle and that helped with carving away both tiny sections and large outside sections.
I tested out the eraser stamps on different papers I had on my desk just to see if I had missed anything.
All of my tests will end up in my art journal as some point, even if it is just for a background!
The carving was completely absorbing. I could have done it for hours and I love that the eraser stamps are all done by me. Seeing my doodles come alive in a stamp was a totally fun experience! Next time you need a stamp, why not try carving one yourself? It is a great way to add a personal touch!
I link up at these great parties!

This looks like so much fun! We always have erasers around our house and we also have a dollar store nearby. I’d love to give this a try.
I’ve actually been back to the dollar store already for more erasers…might be a problem…lol!
Hi Consi Leave I to you to figure out how to make stamps and what a great resource using $store erasers. Think I Have that tool somewhere in all my stuff. I have lots of stamps I hadn’t been using so put them in box, storing them in our handy storage, our old suburban .I put things in there I want to find at some point. If they get in shed might not ever see them again. Besides there’s all kinds of crickets in our shed and they jump on me. EEeeeuuuwwww.
You did a great job carving out shapes, the big flower is awesome with all those petals. You are one very talented artistic lady. Your art journal will be full of gorgeous images.
I’m having bit of peace and quiet this afternoon. Hubs went to VA for physical therapy for his left knee. He hasn’t been doing his exercises tho. Think he’ll still end up having his knee replaced soon. His doc told him his knee was in very bad shape.
I know how that is as I Had both my knees replaced few years ago. My left knee was bone on bone, would get stuck and would hurt so badly, had to force myself to un stick it. lol Hope all is well with you. Happy days and weekend
Thanks for all your kind words, JaneEllen! Love hearing from you.
This is so cool & it gives me an idea for a new business card! Thanks for sharing & I hope your having a great Thursday!
Thanks, Leslie! Glad I sparked an idea! Love when that happens…
