In love with raindrops

Every time it rains, I find myself searching for that perfect raindrop picture. It all started with the picture below.

RainDropFoggyDayI’ve only managed to capture a few (I’ve posted them on Instagram) because I usually only have my iPhone with me and there is only so close you can get to the raindrop without losing focus.

raindropphotoI took at least 15 shots of this leaf before I found one I liked!

justbecause7In case you are wondering, I do add filters to the photos. I use the Instagram filters…Amaro, X-Pro 11 & Lo-Fi. For me, they seem to pop the colors and enhance the water drops.

justbecause4So, I’m considering getting this lens for my iPhone so that next time it rains I can, maybe, get the reflection IN the raindrop! Have any of you tried adding a lens to your phone camera? Would love to hear your experiences and recommendations.

I love these photos. I love it when it rains, for whatever reason that’s when I’m at my most comfortable. I love to feel it, hear it, & smell it. Happy Friday!

Thanks, Leslie. I like it better after the rain but I’ll take either!

Wait a minute…you took these with your iPhone?! That’s amazing. These are really really beautiful photos. I’m so impressed that you took these with your phone. Most of my iPhone photos turn out looking like crap.

How do you get such great depth of field? Do you apply a blur filter after?

Thanks, V! Yes, they are taken with an iPhone 5. The camera in that one is so much better than the 4, so if that’s what you have, that might be the issue you are having. I don’t use blur filters. To get the depth of field, I tap on the screen of the phone to get the camera to focus on a specific point close to me. That tends to blur out the background of the picture. I just learned that if you tap and hold on the screen, it will keep the focus on the foreground more steady. Still working on that… The filters I mentioned in the post tend to just enhance the background blur. Hope this helps!

I love your raindrop pics! I am not so much a rain person – but now I think I might try some raindrop photos for myself.
Love your artwork too, so fresh and delightful!

Thanks, Karen! I don’t mind the rain at all. Good thing since one of my p/t jobs is dog walking no matter the weather!

What beautiful photographs! I’m inspired to take notice of the smaller things and capture them with my iPhone now!

We are currently experiencing a tropical storm here in Oahu. Maybe I’ll venture outside 🙂

It is amazing what you see through the lens of a camera! Breaks things down to the smallest parts!

Your rain drop photos are exquisite Consie, such a special idea to capture and so breath taking. Once again you have extended your talents and found another part of your artistic nature. One thing leads to another. I could look at those rain drop photos for hours. The colors are so beautiful. I’ve never heard of anybody putting a lens on their phone camera. Great idea if it works. Will be waiting to hear how it works out. Are there such things to be bought? I wouldn’t be surprised if there are. Do you have one of those fancy DSLR cameras I’ve seen?
We got a digital camera few months ago but I have to learn how to use it so I can put photos of our items we make on an Etsy store or on Facebook. Have heard some people sell thru their Facebook page. I met a crafter at Harbor Freight while ago that sells her items thru Facebook items for sale page. At least at Harbor Freight I can buy casters for more reasonable prices. At hardware stores they’re way too expensive for me. We made a big patio coffee table out of pallets and put some nice hefty casters on it, too heavy otherwise. Wish we could sell it and some of other items we’ve made.
Do you sell your art and do a great deal of face painting? What kind of other art do you do?
Have great weekend and Happy Fall

Hi JaneEllen, Yes, I do have a DSLR. I have a lot more control with that than the iPhone but it is not always with me when I need it. I am going to sell my art on etsy next month so watch for that! The face painting will still be going strong until Halloween, then sadly it will slow down until next spring. Thanks for the kind comment as usual!

    Your pictures are beautiful!!

I haven’t tried adding a lens to my camera phone, because it really isn’t that great of a camera to begin with.

Thanks, Tracie. The iPhone 5 has a fabulous camera. I couldn’t believe the difference when I upgraded.
