I recently stumbled upon a blog, Creative Every Day, by artist Leah Piken Kolidas.
She hosts a challenge on her blog that encourages her followers to try something new as often as they can, be it every day or just once a month. She does this by posting a theme at the end of one month for you to use as inspiration for the following month. Since the purpose of my blog is to find inspiration from all different sources, I have decided to use her posted monthly theme to create at least one project every month. I will post it as soon as I finish it each month and share with you how I came up with the idea.
This month’s theme was Dark. To be honest, as soon as I read that, I frowned. Huh. What would I do with that? The word itself is, well…. dark! It made me think of sadness, depression, not happy things!! So I let it float around in my brain for a while and then I spotted the perfect thing. An object dark in color but not in spirit.
I made this jaunty little hat a couple of Halloweens ago to go along with my Day of the Dead costume. I have also used it as my Christmas tree topper (my tree is very small). I decided to just make a quick drawing of the hat in my sketchbook and add some watercolor to capture the colors. I then finished off the picture with some details using a black Sharpie.
Since sketching more just for fun is one of my goals for the year, this was a simple way to capture the Dark theme and fulfill the goal.
What project comes to your mind around the theme Dark?
