I have been choosing a guiding word for the year since 2014 (here, here and here) and have found it to be a rewarding experience each time. This year my word is Flourish and now that we are half way through the year, I wanted to reflect a bit on it and its meaning to me. One of the best ways I’ve found to do this is by delving into some art making. The art journal page I made (and how I accomplished it) is below.
The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. This post also contains affiliate links. The opinions I share are solely my own.
I started with a page that I had used to clean off a stencil (Flower Tangle) from another project. The page also had book paper glued down. The art journal is one I made out of recycled cardboard and masking tape. I’ll share how at some point…
To add some color, I covered the entire page with Lemon Custard acrylic paint. This yellow is wonderfully transparent so I was able to still see all of the designs already on the page.
My word Flourish brings to mind gardens and flowers, so I grabbed a couple of stencils with fun flowers to reinforce that feeling. I used the Positivity and the Dutch Spring 6×6 stencils along with Raspberry acrylic paint to add another layer.
Continuing with the flower theme, I glued down a flower I made as a practice piece and extended the colors out onto my page with more acrylic paint.
The Mini Art Deco Alphabet was the perfect stencil to use for my anchor word, Flourish.
The final details that I added to the page were glued down synonyms of my word and a few doodled marks around the letters, rose/leaves and synonym words. Now I have a great visual reminder of my word to focus on as the year continues on.

My word is BALANCE. As in strive for it instead of perfection, which I struggle with daily.
