My husband is a wonderful artist who spends all of his working time on computer generated graphics and websites. For Christmas, I decided to reignite his love of sketching by putting together an art kit that has everything he needs at his fingertips!
I kept the supplies simple: a set of Micron pens
; a set of Derwent Sketching Pencils
; kneaded eraser
; and a mixed media sketchbook
.
Kneaded erasers are my husband’s favorite and they seem to last forever! I am not a fan, so make sure you pick an eraser that you love for your kit.
I decided on a mixed media sketchbook rather than traditional sketching paper so that my hubby would have options for adding color with watercolor or even markers. He can also dabble in adding gesso for texture or gluing pictures onto the pages for a true mixed media page!
The zippered pouch is my favorite part of the gift and also the most personal since I made it! I started with a large piece of primed canvas, adding tons of color with acrylic paint, some inks and fabric sprays. I cut the two sides to the pouch big enough to hold all of the supplies plus a little room to add a few more. I ended up with two pieces each measuring approximately 9×11. I added a black zipper to the top, sewed up the other three sides, turned it right side out and stuffed it full of art supplies!
To encourage Lee to use the supplies, he and I are going to have a sketching date each week to create art together. We decided we would have a theme and see what we each come up with. We are completely different in our styles so this should be fun. Each month, I’ll share what we came up with, so stay tuned!
If you know someone in your life that could use a little encouragement to pursue their love of art, consider putting together your own gift of art supplies that might just be the push they need!
I link up at these great parties!
