I’m back this month with another art journal process video following Mike Deakin’s Mission Inspiration prompts. (You can see February here.) Following a set order of prompts has its challenges but since there are no hard and fast rules to this, sometimes starting over is the best option when you have created a hot mess!
The page above looked a bit different at the beginning of the video. I had a plan and I followed it till I just had no where else to go! At that point I decided the best option was to start at the beginning of the prompts again. Take a look below and see what I mean…
I’m actually glad that the page didn’t work as it gave me a chance to show you (and me!) that not every art journal page comes out just the way we imagine it. Not by a long shot. Most of the time, I work on pages for days…just adding a little here and there until the page says it is done.
Making a video of the process certainly inspires me to try to complete a page in a set amount of time but those pages are the exception.
Art journaling is about the process to me. It is about all the layering of colors and textures and just going with my gut. It is about trying new techniques and supplies and most of all having fun!
I choose this quote before I started the page because it was a reminder to myself that even though the next few months will be hard ones, stopping was not an option. That the decision to move to a new state was the right choice and that in the end, all the headaches will be worth it!
What I didn’t know is that the quote would be more literal in its meaning and tell me to finish the art journal page…no matter what! Funny how that happens sometimes!
