One of my favorite young women graduated from high school recently and I am so excited for her to begin her college life! To celebrate, I sent her a little fun money to spend tucked inside a handmade greeting card!

DIY mixed media greeting card & money holder • AtopSerenityHill.com #greetingcard #mixedmedia #moneyholderI started off with a piece of bristol board and added watercolor, acrylics, black ink, paint pens, spray fabric paint, and a variety of texture and pattern tools. I ended up with this wonderfully bright piece of art that I made into a greeting card.

mixedmediamoneyholder5The opposite side of the art was painted with black acrylic paint. This had the bonus effect of getting the bristol board to flatten out after all the painting cause it to curl up. I then folded the bristol board to form the card.

mixedmediamoneyholder4A couple of buttons, some hot glue and baker’s twine formed the closure for the money holder.

mixedmediamoneyholder3I glued down 4 pieces of light blue card stock that I embellished with markers and stickers to form the money holders. Tip: have the money already in place when you glue the card stock so that it forms a pocket (ask me how I found this out!). A white paint pen worked beautifully on the black acrylic to add a note of congratulations!

mixedmediamoneyholder2This mixed media greeting card is perfect for those upcoming events that you might like to give a gift of money. It can be made in any color and size, making it completely customizable for the recipient! Have fun playing with all of your art supplies and see what combos you can come up with!

I link up at these great parties!
