Art journaling is relatively new to me…as in I started this year! I always thought of journaling as a “dear diary” sort of thing and, even though I have tried that in the past, it was not for me. Enter the world of journaling using art. That I loved. I could get my head around adding colors and paper bits and quotes to get a thought or emotion out on paper.

But, I never want to read what I wrote…it is out and done, and most likely illegible as well! My solution to that? Cover it up with paint, sprays, paper, stencils, doodling and a quote that sums up what I was feeling.

Adding stencils and tree to an art journal page • AtopSerenityHill.com #artjournal #mixedmedia #documentedlifeprojectThe Documented Life Project challenge for week 42 was to use stars on the page. Since my journaling was a letter to the universe, the stars were perfect to cover up all my thoughts. A stencil was the easiest way to add the stars with white acrylic paint. Some shadowing with an Inktense pencil and a highlight of yellow added a little dimension. Thinned acrylic paint and a round brush provided the tree.

How many of you keep an art journal? Do you write in it “dear diary” style first or do you just let the images convey your thoughts? Would love to know!
