Dia de los Muertos or the Day of the Dead is on November 1. Do you know someone whose birthday happens on that date? What about Halloween? Need to wrap some gifts? Here’s a great Sugar Skull design that will make your presents extra special!
The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. This post also contains affiliate links. The opinions I share are solely my own.
I started with a large piece of kraft paper, some of my favorite acrylic paint colors and an old plastic gift card. I added a line of paint on the edge of the card and then scraped each of the colors over the paper in different directions. This is a super fast way to add color to any project!
Using more acrylic paint and a few household items (bubble wrap, a cardboard tube, drywall mesh tape), I added more layers of color and shapes to the wrapping paper.
The next layer of color and shapes was achieved with a round paint brush and a watercolor palette that I use all the time. Water thinned acrylic paint would have the same effect. I added swirls, X’s and splotches randomly. I then used water thinned white acrylic paint to add splatters of paint over the entire wrapping paper design.
Once the layers of paint for the background were dry, it was time to add some black stenciling. I started with the Mini Sugar Skull stencil, black acrylic paint and a makeup sponge.
The white gel pen pops the skulls and flowers off of the background to give them more dimension. Now I’m ready for my gift wrapping!
Have you ever needed some fun wrapping paper but just couldn’t find anything you liked? DIY it next time because any reason to create your own wrapping paper is a good one!
