What a crazy summer it has been so far. Life seems to be in fast forward so I turned to one of my favorite ways to quiet my mind and de-stress…doodling.

Doodling...a great way to de-stress! An art journal page using The Crafter's Workshop stencils and markers • AtopSerenityHill.com #artjournal #doodling #stencilThe two pages took a few hours to complete but by working a little each day, I was definitely able to slow down a little with my hectic schedule.

Doodling...a great way to de-stress! An art journal page using The Crafter's Workshop stencils and markers • AtopSerenityHill.com #artjournal #doodling #stencilI started the whole design off with the Striped Flower Circle stencil from The Crafter’s Workshop line and some Tumble Dye spray in neon green. On the left side of the page, I sprayed directly through the stencil. I then flipped the wet stencil over onto the right side of the page to print the design.

This time I sprayed through the stencil on the right page and flipped the stencil to print the design on the left page…lining up the stencil as best I could. Let this part be messy and loose!

An art journal page using The Crafter's Workshop stencils and markers • AtopSerenityHill.com #artjournal #doodling #stencilOnce all the main parts of the design were filled in, I used a simple swirl pattern in the background to tie all the elements together. I absolutely LOVE how it came out! And, bonus…the goal of de-stressing was accomplished…as least for now! What’s your favorite way to de-stress?

PS…I was working in this journal.

I had no idea there were stencils for this sort of thing! Love the soothing colors you’ve chosen.

Thanks, Lydia! Stencils can be used for so many things! This is my new favorite way of using them. It is a great starting point when you are staring at a blank page!

I love to doodle/draw to release stress – it’s so meditative. And inktense pencils are great aren’t they? Thanks for sharing – your pages are grogeous!

No wonder you were thrilled with this piece of artwork Consie, it’s beautiful.
What an added bonus that it helped to de-stress you too. A win win situation.
I love to draw zentangles to relax although I haven’t done any recently… I’ve been too busy.
You’ve inspired me to draw more.
I hope you have a creative week.

Thank you for the great step-through. The photos of your work are great. And the work IN the photos is wonderful as well! I paint backgrounds and starter pages in my journals to destress. No pressure and no expectations but I really like your method, too. I keep forgetting that stencils can be used like this and what a wonderful way to get them going that extra mile… Thank you for sharing!
