Sometimes I need a reminder to stop looking and planning too far ahead and just take it One Day At A Time!
I thought I would share a colorful art journal page that I did as part of the design team for The Crafter’s Workshop inspired by Julie Fei-Fan Balzer’s work.
I started off with a page in my Canson sketchbook
that I used to scrape off extra paint from another project. I had used an old key card…one of my favorite tools to apply paint quickly. I gathered four stencils (TCW527: Word Association, TCW519S: Mini Hummingbirds, TCW528S: Mini Daily Buzz, TCW548S: Mini Herbarium), a pencil, a Sharpie pen, a PITT big brush pen in black, a Signo Uni-ball white gel pen and had some fun playing!
The first thing I did was to use the Word Association stencil and a pencil to add all of the words. I mixed and matched letters as I needed to create all the words except Time and hand drew the number one.
I continued adding flowers from the Daily Buzz stencil, a hummingbird from the Hummingbirds stencil, and leaves from the Herbarium stencil. I then outlined all of the patterns with a Sharpie pen to make it easier to see the design.
The next step was to eliminate all of the background using my black Pitt artist pen. This takes some time but is well worth the effort!
The final step was to add all my white outlines and marks with a white gel pen and to create any extra details in the flowers with the Sharpie pen. I love how stunning the background colors are against all that black! It really makes the design pop and leaves me with a great reminder to slow down and take One Day At A Time.
PS…you can see more examples of my black background art journal pages here!
I link up at these parties!
