This past weekend was my first face painting party for 2013. It was for a 4 year old’s birthday. I love that age for face painting. The kids are completely into it and the boys say yes to glitter!! One of the dads asked me if I also did makeup. I always find this question a little funny since I am actually using makeup for the face painting. Since my kit looks more like paint than what you would find at the drugstore, I get this question alot. However, I did get that the dad meant traditional makeup for proms, weddings and such.
So, I said “No, this (pointing to the kids around us) is my style of makeup.” We were surrounded by butterflies, Spiderman, Batman, a couple ladybugs and a dinosaur. I then turned to him and said, “I find it much easier to make you ugly than to make you pretty!”
Now this is not exactly true except perhaps at Halloween. I do paint pretty, just not in the traditional sense. But I don’t think many of you would get married with a butterfly painted on your face…although that would be a fun wedding! I would more likely get hired to paint a zombie themed wedding and well, zombies are not exactly the prettiest things!
To me, whether it is ugly, scary, pretty, handsome, cute or cuddly….I love to paint every design. It might be the 500th time I have done Spiderman or the 1000th butterfly. It all comes down to look on the person’s face when they see themselves in the mirror for the first time….priceless.
